This song is dedicated to my friend, JoAnn, who lost her husband and soulmate in 2013. A year later, we got into a pretty heavy discussion about grief. My friend shared with me that she was mostly doing ok, but one of the weirdest little things that kept coming up - something you wouldn’t think was such a big thing, but it really was, was that her cheerleader was gone. All accomplishments moving forward, big and small - who was going to be there now, to care?

Lyrics

Mommy mommy look at me
I’m up here on the high dive
I’ll bet you’ve never see a girl as brave and bold as I
I’m gonna make this jump for you
I’m gonna make it good for you
I’m gonna make you proud of me I promise

Teacher teacher thank you for that “A”
we both know I deserve
I bet you’ve never seen a girl as smart as I
I’m gonna do so good for you
I’m gonna make this jump for you
Your gonna be so proud of me I promise

The years go by and some things change and
some things never do
You’d think that I’d be over now how much I leaned to you
I promised you I’d be alright
I promised you that I’d be strong
I promised you I’d move along and I’ve moved along
I’ve moved along

But who will I be good for now
Who will I be good for now
Who will I be good for now
Now that you’re gone

Who will I be good for now
Who will I be good for now
Who will I be good for now
Now that you’re gone

Still a child inside
Who never has grown
The hardest part about bein’ alone is
Who will I be good for now
Now that you’re gone

I used to make you laugh
I used to make you smile
