From the recording Land of Dreams

This song came to me in a dream in August, 2021 and the world had been in lockdown for over a year. I had a dream I was sitting in an airport concourse where a young woman was playing a grand piano. A girl walked over and began singing the most beautiful song I had ever heard. Then I woke up. I was happy the song was still playing in my head, but also a bit grumpy that it was ridiculously early in the morning and I knew if I didn’t drag myself over to the piano and record it, this song would be gone forever. Over the years I’ve had many dreams that have been comforting, embracing and incredibly vivid. This dream felt so real that I actually felt a little guilty I was stealing a song from someone in another dimension. Now I see it as a musical bridge to a deeper place inside myself, a reminder that amidst all the chaos going on in the world, through dreams and music, I can always find my way back home.

Lyrics

Woke up early morning with a song inside my head
Then I heard a voice inside me say
Hey! get up and write this down
I felt a little smile come on as I stumbled back to bed
Good morning I’ve got you now

I caught pieces of an open dream
Scattered remnants of a long ago forgotten memory
Left these pieces in an open dream
To shine my way back home

Everything’s so different now
The world has changed so fast
And lately I’ve been yearning for a time not that long ago
We’d just march into the future
From the shoulders of a past
That will never be again

But I caught pieces of an open dream
Scattered remnants of a long ago forgotten memory
Left these pieces in an open dream
To shine my way back home

I caught pieces of an open dream
Fragile treasures from a vast and loving place I once belonged
Left pieces in an open dream
To shine my way

I caught precious pieces of an open dream
To hold on tight before they slip back through the veil
I’m gonna ride these pieces of an open dream
And find my way back home
