I wrote “Land of Dreams” way back in 1986, with my then-writing partner, Rachael Nicole Gold, who wrote the music and I wrote the lyrics. We were both very much into Latin jazz at the time - Flora Purim, Chick Corea and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and the freedom and joy of those favorite artists is reflected in this composition. The complex and rapid fire chord changes sound deceptively simple, but they’re not! Rachael Nicole is playing piano on this track. Also featured is slide guitarist Kenny Skaggs (Glen Campbell), whose musical contributions take “Land of Dreams” to an even dreamier place. And of course, the spectacular harmonies, guitar and cello work of “The Brother’s Landau” are showcased throughout.

“Land of Dreams” is the oldest song on my upcoming album of the same name (release date - February, 2024) and of mostly recently-written songs. But the song “Land of Dreams” seems even more relevant to me today, from the hindsight of looking back over the years and feeling like I’ve lived many lifetimes. At this point in my life, the sailing is peaceful and smooth, and all the drama, joys and sorrows of the past, it all seems like nothing more than a dream.
